Media literacy education is intended to promote awareness of media influence and create an active stance towards both consuming and creating media in addition to encouraging people to critically assess and evaluate what they watch, hear, and read.

In the digital age, it easy for anyone to create media. But with that in mind, we don’t always know who has created something, why they’ve created it, who it’s intended audience is and whether or not it is credible. Through this visit, we aim to provide practitioners in media field with the opportunity:

  • to engage with the different media platforms that exist in London, UK,
  • to understand their many purpose, reach and motivations,
  • to learn from European Media & Information Literacy makers and their organisation;
  • to gather and share best practices
  • to creating a platform for future national and international partnership.

The study visit is for 15 – 18 participants. The working language of the event will be English therefore the participants should be comfortable working in English.

The study visit is aimed at journalist, bloggers, vloggers, filmmakers, radio hosts, presenters, media educators and researchers and anyone who identifies as a content creators actively working in the field of media, or youth and community development in London, UK.

What will participants gain?

Attendees of the study visit will gain an insight into the mainstream media platforms that exist in London such as ITV, BBC, Channel 4 and London Live. But also have the chance to meet the young and established content creators and media makers who have developed their own platforms and mediums to address social and political needs in London and the surrounding boroughs.
