Active Listening in Youth Work

The aim of the project is to improve youth workers communication skills while working with disadvantaged groups of young people. We will focus on Active Listening and Assertive Communication non-formal education methods.

Active listening in youth work is an Erasmus+ Training Course, that will be implemented from 22 to 31 of October, in Larnaca, Cyprus. The aim of the project is to improve youth workers communication skills by teaching them new methods that can be used while working with disadvantaged groups of young people. We will focus on Active Listening and Assertive Communication techniques. This project is mainly addressed to: – Youth workers that are working with disadvantaged groups (economically, socially, cultural) – Youth workers that are new in the youth field – Youth workers that need to learn more Non-Formal Education Methods about Communication – Teachers that want to do implement new methods in the school (are willing to work extra hours and do extracurricular activities) – Youth workers that face difficulties in their work – Youth leaders that want to better communicate with their groups of young people – Mentors in EVS that want to improve their communication with volunteers Our main objectives are: 1. Improve the communication between youth workers and disadvantaged young people while using assertive communication and active listening. 2. Learn how to use non-formal education as a tool for better understanding the young people needs, desires and encourage them to be more active in local projects. 3. Help youth workers gather ideas, plan and implement local projects in their community with disadvantaged young people. During the project we will learn about communication both in a theoretical and in practical way. We will prepare during our sessions and in the last days of the project we will have the chance to practice our methods in a local high school. We will focus on non-formal education methods and team work.
