Sustainability Academy: building Future(s) Scenarios!

Learn how to support young people with imagining/building desired future scenarios for their communities. This training on sustainable youth work uses Futures Thinking and addresses sustainable development , social entrepreneurship, circular economy.

The Sustainability Academy: building Future Scenarios is a training course focused on sustainability in youth work. Over 5 days, the participants will be invited to build desired future scenarios using the Futures Thinking methodology. In small groups they will focus on 4 possible directions for sustainable futures focused on important topics, e.g. circular economy, tech and Robotics, Social Entrepreneurship and Future of Food/ Food Sovereignty.

During the course the participants will be assisted with  three Design Thinking  coaches experienced in non-formal education and Futures Thinking as well as 3 experts in areas of Sustainable development, Circular Economy and Social Entrepreneurship. Together they will explore potential solutions for more sustainable lifestyles and communities.

At the end of the training the working groups will elaborate the proposals for the positive future scenarios and reflect on how the futures thinking tools can help them to work with young people on the delicate (and sometimes scary) topic of planning the futures, being motivated to act, lead and get involved.

Main objectives:

  • Understand current environmental and social challenges and the way young people approach them
  • Rethink the current way of doing: prepare young people to co-create more circular, sustainable world
  • Learn how the European Solidarity Corps can help youngsters to implement their project,
  • Get to know and apply Futures Thinking tools in youth work, to develop young people’s imagination and positive participation (as counterbalance to negativity and fear to act)
  • Use the Design Thinking process to less talking and more doing: visualise ideas, test them, profit from feedback
  • Identify already existing tools used in youth work and community work in Luxembourg and Europe
  • Co-create potential solutions that can be multiplied on local and European level
  • The participants will have a chance to interact with local experts, get inspired by the projects, present their organisations and plan new projects together.

*currently there are no COVID19 restrictions in Luxembourg, if new measures are imposed the candidates will be informed at the moment of selection.
