If you are new here and you would like to apply for your first Youth Exchange, you should firstly check What is Erasmus youth exchange and also What is the difference between Erasmus training and youth exchange. You can find opportunities and apply for them here: opportunities. If you have been selected, here there are some tips on what not to forget:

Travel documents

Firstly, make sure that the tickets you have chosen were approved by the hosting organization before making a purchase. The second important thing is to collect all the tickets, invoices and receipts which you paid for. After the project (or during) you have to upload them online, or send them via email and the organization will refund them. It usually takes between 3-6 months, but don’t worry, you will get your money back.

Cultural evening

Youth exchanges are about exchanging new ideas, people, but also foods and cultures! As well as you represent yourself, you represent your country. This is the reason why you shouldn’t forget to bring some of your traditions, food, drinks, music… The cultural evening is an important part of the Youth Exchange. Everyone will bring something and represent their country, so don’t forget to pack some national delicates.

Infopack

Don’t forget to read an infopack provided by the Hosting Organization. There is usually really important information such as where you should meet or the daily program of the exchange. Also, don’t forget to check if there are towels and other toiletries available or if you should bring your own ones.

Enjoy it!

Everyone knows that it is sometimes hard to go somewhere where we don’t know anyone, but on another hand, this is a chance to become better. Don’t be shy, try to interact with people, and remember, you don’t have to speak perfect English. Projects are also about tolerance and the most important thing is to try. When you are going alone and you don’t know anyone before the project, take it as an advantage. Remember, you don’t have anything to be scared of. Enjoy your first project. And be careful, once you try it, you won’t be able to stop 😄
