Youth Workers’ Playground
As youth workers, we are constantly creating learning opportunities for the young people we work with. A very powerful tool to do this is playing games. Games can address a whole variety of topics in a very accessible way. Whether it’s global warming, poverty, leadership skills or conflict resolution: a game can help us to actively process new and complex information. Especially when working with young people, playing games and doing things together is a great way of connecting with them and stimulating them to learn new things.
In this project, we aim to:
- raise awareness about the importance of gaming in education;
- introduce gamification as an efficient tool while working with youth;
- raise youth workers’ competencies in engaging local youth by using gamification;
- develop educational games and internalize the learning through the reflection.
Thereby:
- introduce participants to different elements of creating high quality educational games;
- develop educational games within the project to be used back home by the participants;
- boost participants’ creativity and joy from the work;
- create a booklet about games and disseminate it to wider groups.
Participants should be:
- Able to communicate in English;
- Able to participate in the whole duration of the activity;
- Working with youth and/or motivated to explore approaches in youth work;
- Ready to create a board game and later develop and disseminate it;
- Ready to support dissemination and visibility activities.
