Costs: This project is financed by Erasmus+ programme. Being selected for this course, most of the costs (accommodation, travel, visa, etc.) relevant to participation in the course will be covered. Travel costs, accommodation and programme costs for invited participants will be fully covered with the cofunding of Erasmus+ Youth in Action, following the limits of lump sums depending on the traveling distance. The money will be transferred after the training course once organisers have received all original travel documents including return. (Boarding passes, e- tickets, invoices, bus/train tickets). The maximum amount covered per person:

Austria, Germany, Czech Republic (if travel distance one way is between 100 499 km): up to 180 EUR
Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Romania, Slovenia and Turkey (if travel distance one way is between 500 1999 km): 275 EUR

The participants will be expected to make a contribution between 40-70 EUR according to their estimations of financial possibilities and the education benefits they will gain. If justified, participants may be exempted from paying the contribution.

Expedition Designing Adventure in Urban Environment

You work as a youth worker in urban environment? Youngsters complain that there is nothing to do there? You want to use digital technologies and develop their adventure skills in the middle of nowhere? Then come to ‘Expedition’!

This training course is the second part of the project “Expedition – Adapting Environment to Create Experiential Learning Programs in European Youth Work”. The first part of the project was also a training course which focus was on rural environment that took place from 14 - 22.05.2016 in Daugirdiškės, Lithuania. Furthermore, contrary to the first activity, this second activity focuses on how to make use of urban environment for adventure learning programmes that involve the use of digital technologies. Such programmes create opportunities to develop exploration skills and motivate young people to connect to their surrounding environment and be physically active. After accomplishing this training course you will have ideas and methods, how to use seems deprived urban environment for learning in a cool way.

Participants profile

The training course will offer opportunities for 27 youth leaders, youth workers and trainers to develop their personal and professional competences. The participants are expected to be:

● Working directly with young people from inclusion groups in the deprived urban environments;
● Interested to learn new methodologies and practice them with their target groups;
● Willing to invest into their personal and professional development;
● At least 21 years old

Note: The participants of the previous activity are welcome to take part, but new applicants who have relevant experience and who could potentially contribute content wise to this training course are highly encouraged to apply.

Aims and objectives

The general aim of this training is to empower participants to design learning programs tailored to the needs and interests of young people by making the use of urban environment they work in.

After this training course participants will be able to create adventurous learning opportunities, through which young people would gain various transversal skills; will become more motivated to participate in the matters of community and become physically active.

Specific objectives of this training course:

● To empower youth workers to design learning programs tailored to the needs and interests of young people using urban environment they work in.
● To provide opportunities for youth workers to test various approaches, methods and technological tools to be used for ‘Expeditions’ in urban environments.
● To create a learning group environment for peer coaching and coaching from the trainers as support for youth workers to apply their learning to practice during the follow up phase.
● To put into practice use of methods to assess and reflect youth work practices and competences using European recognition tools (Youthpass and Open Badges).
● To collect innovative youth work methods which can be applied with inclusion youth groups living in the deprived urban environments

Working methods

During the 2nd training course, the urban environment of city of Weimar will provide the base and resources for learning and training activities. From the perspective of young people this environment may be challenging, because it only partially creates opportunities to address interests and needs of young people.

The participants first will exchange their experiences of making the use of their own urban environments for young people’s learning. Then they will be faced with exercises challenging them to explore the city’s environment. Their tasks will be to explore and identify opportunities for designing experiential learning programmes for young people.

Participants will be invited to create learning programmes in this particular urban environment in the form of ‘Expedition’ where learning happens while moving across urban spaces and using them for learning, inspiration and reflections. During the course participants will work in international teams to develop and collect new methods, practice digital tools and discuss approaches. They will practice and develop their skills to create learning programmes that can be implemented using the opportunities and
resources of their local environments.
